Jody Belsher was born in Chicago where she grew up in her parent's cool store Main Music. Mom sang and played all the instruments while Dad fixed them. Many days and nights were spent hanging out in the store with all the great Chicago music talent stopping by to jam. Jody began songwriting at 11 years old, writing to cope with pre-teen and teenage angst about friendships as well as a moving piece entitled "As I Lose You" written for her beloved grandfather. Singing leads in musicals and variety shows, Jody pursued a minor in voice at Western Michigan University before heading West, with a short detour to record in Nashville. She performed regularly in clubs and continued songwriting, pairing with Peter Andrews and Marc Darrow in Santa Monica. A stint as Press Agent for Rod Stewart took Jody on an eleven country, 40-venue tour of Europe, landing her back in L.A. to open her own Public Relations and Personal Management agency, while attending graduate school at USC. Her personal pursuit of music took a back seat as she steered careers of others and raised a family of three. In 1990 they moved to San Luis Obispo where Jody pursued her artistic talents working as a freelance graphic designer and calligrapher. Her company, J. Belsher Creative, expanded into music management. She currently represents World Music group Tukuleur--based in Paris/Senegal, and local singer/songwriter Jay Horn. As life twists and turns, finding new directions, Jody recently found herself drawn back to her roots and back to songwriting. Jody writes and performs with her Martin D35 guitar and on the same piano she used at 11 years old. She is working on her CD "Starlight," and feels compelled to release these heartfelt songs. "I've never been more comfortable with my music, my songwriting and my desire to share this music," she explains. "Many of my new songs are about the passionate belief in the human condition." Recently back to live performing, Jody has played at the SLO Songwriter's at Play at the Kreuzberg Cafe and in concert with Jay Horn at the Steynberg Gallery in San Luis Obispo. Jody continues to write and work on her music on a daily basis. "My goal is to get my music recorded by established artists and to have my songs licensed in film and tv." With a diverse and large catalog of original songs, and a determination to share her music, Jody is embracing her musical gifts to the fullest. |
